Delaware County is located in southern New York. It is within the Southern Tier region and Catskill Mountains. Delaware County has a total area of approximately 1468 square miles of which 98% is land and 2% water.As of the census² of 2000, there were 48,055 people, 19,270 households, and 12,737 families residing in Delaware County, New York. Out of New York's 58 counties, the county ranks only as 49th most populous. On its southern border, Delaware County is separated from Pennsylvania by the Delaware River.
